National School Counselor Week
Image result for national school counselor week

This week is ‘National School Counselor Week’ and we are so grateful to have the absolute best right here at Tyler Elementary.  Thank you to Mrs. Chamberlain for being an AWESOME counselor.  Be sure to show her your appreciation for all that she does to help our students be successful. We hope that students will write a letter, give a hug, or do something creative to express their gratitude for all that Mrs. Chamberlain does to support our school.  We would also like to welcome our new counselor, Ms. Rodriguez.  She will be at Tyler on Tuesdays!

Congratulations to Mrs. Thayne!

Lisa Thayne, 5th grade teacher at Tyler Elementary, was recently published in the Journal of the
Greater Washington Reading Council
.  Her article on teaching our students to be global thinkers goes beyond the planning phase.  She has put it into action!  Take a look: http://gwrc.net/pages/j13.htm.  Great job Mrs. Thayne!

Watch DOG of the Day
Thank you to Mr. Nejedly for being Tyler's Watch D.O.G.S. Volunteer!

Watch DOGS Launch Event a HUGE Success

On September 22nd, Tyler's fathers and father-figures came out in full force to support the launch event of Watch DOGS.  This innovative volunteer program brings positive male role models into schools.  With over 200 in attendance (and 45 pizzas consumed!), the evening resulted in a commitment of more than 40 full days of volunteering from Tyler's newest Watch DOGS.  Thank you to Ben Perilla, Dan Bomar, Keith Matias, Kenneth Jenkins, Ben Houle, and Randy Smith for getting Watch DOGS off the ground.  Thank you to Michelle Wilson for your support of the logistics of the event.  If you are interested in being a Tyler Watch DOG, please contact the Top Dog Coordinator, Ben Perilla, at bap6g1@gmail.com.  More information can be found on Tyler’s ‘Watch DOGS’ page, located on the left navigation bar of Tyler’s main webpage.

Family Life Opt-Out Information
The parent letter/opt-out form is part of the PWCS student "Code of Behavior & Forms." Objectives by grade level are posted on the Science and Family Life Education web page at science.departments.pwcs.edu/ (choose the Family Life Education button). Parents should visit the site and review the objectives for their child's grade level or course. Parents may exercise opt-out for any of the FLE sensitive content by returning the opt-out form to their child's teacher any time during the school year but preferably within the first month of school.

Questions about the FLE program or the opt-out procedure may be directed to Kathy Keesee, administrative coordinator, Science and Family Life Education, at 703.791.7848 or lanzafk@pwcs.edu.
