Those who care for the children and families of Prince William County are deeply moved and troubled by this week's events in Pakistan. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims, their familes, and loved ones.

School Announcements
Winter Chorus Concert
Tyler chorus students, led by Mrs. Fraker, performed a beautiful winter concert.  Based on Ezra Jack Keat's book A Snowy Day, students performed a variety of songs showcasing the hard work and skills they have acquired over many hours of early morning practices.  With 150 students on stage, the sound was beautiful!
No Lunch Visitors
There will be no lunch visitors on Thursday, 12/18, and Friday, 12/19.  Thank you for your understanding.
Increased Number of Lice Cases
At this time, we are experiencing an elevation in the number of lice cases.  Classes that have two confirmed cases have received a letter.  Please be sure to monitor your child closely for nits and/or lice and notify the school should you find any.  Helpful information regarding lice can be found at http://www.liceladiesva.com/ as well as at http://pwcs.schoolfusion.us/modules/groups/homepagefiles/cms/493839/File/Regulations/r753-2.pdf?sessionid=1caed5de693ad174a83be673e47582f5.

Hour of Coding
Several Tyler students recently participated in the National 'Hour of Coding' event.  They logged on to http://hourofcode.com/us, watched tutorials on coding in different professions, and even practiced writing code themselves.
TYLER DESIGNATED A 2014 SCHOOL OF EXCELLENCE

Tyler Elementary was named a 2014 School of Excellence by the Prince William County School Board.  This is the 8th year that Tyler has earned the coveted title.

School of Excellence is the highest recognition awarded to schools by the PWCS School Board. It signifies high levels of performance on state accreditation, Annual Measurable Objectives, and in moving toward the goals of the Division's Strategic Plan.

Congratulations to everyone who helped to earn this important indicator of student success.

All Aboard With Reading!
Tyler's traditional reading challenge will begin on Monday, December 1st and will end on Thursday, December 18th. If Tyler Tomcat students reach the goal of 50,000 minutes, we will celebrate by having a school wide Polar Express day on December 19th!

Congratulations to our Newest Safety Patrols
Tyler held its induction ceremony for our Safety Patrols on Wednesday, October 8th.  Safety Patrols are selected based on their strong academic standing, ability to consistently demonstrate the 6 pillars of character, as well as leadership skills.  Congratulations to our 5th grade students selected for this prestigious position!  The Safety Patrols are sponsored by Senora McGraw, Tyler's Spanish teacher.
SAFETY ALERT
Don't Let Removal of Haymarket Overpass Threaten Student Safety
Closing of the Old Carolina/Jefferson Street overpass (September 21) eliminates a popular student pathway. But Route 15 is no place for pedestrians and cyclists. Urge students to stay safe and avoid this crowded and dangerous route when not in motorized vehicles.
Target Takes Charge of Education!
Tyler Elementary has received $2,292.66 to date from Target for their Take Charge of Education  program!  Thanks to all of our parents who link their debit/credit card to Tyler (School ID: 104455) and earn us FREE MONEY!
Transfer Information
Students entering grades 1-5 for the 2015-2016 school year, who would like to attend Tyler for the World Languages Program (Spanish), must submit their transfer requests by Friday, 2/13. All other transfer requests are due by April 30th.  More information about the transfer process can be found at http://pwcs.schoolfusion.us/modules/groups/homepagefiles/cms/493839/File/Regulations/R721-1.pdf?sessionid=a608a1d867d22acad387a21a562fec2e.
