Tyler's New Activity Room is Finished
Tyler recently held their ribbon cutting ceremony to recognize the official completion of their new activity room. Jeff Zavalanski, with Hammerhead Construction, and Jesse Mason with PWCS, were on hand to receive accolades and gratitude for a job well done. Mr. Zavalanski and Mr. Mason led the team that built this amazing space for Tyler students. Tyler's new space boasts large square footage for physical activity, restrooms, office space, and storage to support the PE program. Students were impressed to see the detailed "books" involved in building this new space and the math and reading required by these professionals. Classes have already begun in the new space.

Volunteers Needed for the Feelin' Groovy Book Fair, May 2-6

Dear Tyler Families,

It's that time of year again- time for our "Feelin' Groovy" Spring Book Fair!

We need many volunteers to help us have a successful book fair. Proceeds from the fair allow us to buy new books for our Tyler Library.  If you don't have time to volunteer, you can always drop off food and/or drinks for our Family Night.  If you can't volunteer at all, please stop by and browse- we always have a great selection!

Thank you and we hope to see you at our "Feelin' Groovy" Book Fair, May 2-6 :)

Peace, Love and Books!

Mrs. Briceno and Mrs. Newman

Lisa Thayne, 5th grade teacher at Tyler Elementary, was recently published in the Journal of the
Greater Washington Reading Council
.  Her article on teaching our students to be global thinkers goes beyond the planning phase.  She has put it into action!  Take a look: http://gwrc.net/pages/j13.htm.  Great job Mrs. Thayne!

Watch DOGS Launch Event a HUGE Success

On September 22nd, Tyler's fathers and father-figures came out in full force to support the launch event of Watch DOGS.  This innovative volunteer program brings positive male role models into schools.  With over 200 in attendance (and 45 pizzas consumed!), the evening resulted in a commitment of more than 40 full days of volunteering from Tyler's newest Watch DOGS.  Thank you to Ben Perilla, Dan Bomar, Keith Matias, Kenneth Jenkins, Ben Houle, and Randy Smith for getting Watch DOGS off the ground.  Thank you to Michelle Wilson for your support of the logistics of the event.  If you are interested in being a Tyler Watch DOG, please contact the Top Dog Coordinator, Ben Perilla, at bap6g1@gmail.com.  More information can be found on Tyler’s ‘Watch DOGS’ page, located on the left navigation bar of Tyler’s main webpage.
